RAAF Darwin, following a major night exercise with planes from Indonesia, Singapore and the US late last month, will be hosting a public open day on 11th August. Spectators will be able to view Australian super hornets, Singaporean F16s and F15s, Thai F16s, a Singaporean KC135 refuelling aircraft, Aussie Wedgetails, C17 and C130s, Indonesian C30s and US marine corp hornets and C130s plus a mighty B52 from Guam. As Group captain Michael Kitcher sets about the final stages of the mass exercise, involving 85 aircraft, he explains why Darwin is playing host: “The flying we get to do up in the Territory is second to none. The airspace there is up with or as good as anywhere in the world.”
