General Aviation

General Aviation used to be the generic term that covered all flights other than scheduled airline or military traffic. The advent of recreational aviation and the Light Sports category has refined GA into a descriptive handle for aircraft that weigh over a specified limit. The training and license requirements for GA are more rigorous than sports aviation although, obviously, less stringent than commercial. GA is, fundamentally, civil aviation and is still the broadest and most popular flying category in the world, despite fierce competition from the recreational sector.
