Freighter Fatality

01/08/12

A twin-engine Piper Seneca freight plane crashed in sand dunes about two kilometres south of Broome’s Cable Beach shortly after take-off. The pilot, 27 year old Adam Gaffney, had more than 400 flight hours under his belt and was engaged to be married when he was tragically killed. The plane was on a regular freight route to Port Hedland and took off in good weather conditions. The ATSB has so far confirmed the flight was not overloaded and suggests they may have some ideas as to the cause but explained that the investigation was likely to take 12 months.
