Aside from the ubiquitous Robbie and the occasional iconic Bell 47 retained for nostalgic value, you can count on one hand the different helicopter types buzzing around Australian skies. Enstrom Helicopters for one have never made a huge impact Downunder – questions have been asked in the past about the effect of dust on its transmission system – although in the single turbine category, an Enstrom is a superb entry level machine. However, one country that perfectly suits its constitution and rugged features is New Zealand.
No surprise then that Enstrom has set its sights on this territory, proudly announcing they have received New Zealand type certification for the F-28F, the 280FX and the instantly recogniseable 480B. Enstrom piston aircraft have already been operating successfully in New Zealand for a number of years, however, this latest Type Acceptance updates to the latest certification on those aircraft and also approves Enstrom’s turbine powered 480B.
Dennis Martin, Enstrom Director of Marketing and Sales, remarked, “Already the first 480B is on its way from the US, and we look forward to customers there getting a chance to see what a modern, cost effective turbine Enstrom can do.”
