Archerfield Airport Corporation (AAC) is preparing to implement Archerfield Airport Project AIM: Airside Infrastructure Modernisation (Project AIM) which plans to deliver several airside infrastructure improvements foreshadowed in successive airport master plans since 2000.
In accordance with the Master Plan 2017-2037, Archerfield Airport is forecast to cater for between 170,000 and 260,000 aircraft movements per year. Project AIM will assist in facilitating this anticipated growth by improving and modernising the existing ageing infrastructure and will enable the airport to continue to play a supportive role to Brisbane Airport for the foreseeable future.
The project works have an estimated value of approximately $17.5 million and include the lengthening and strengthening of the airport’s main runway and adjoining taxiways, and replacement of the airport’s ageing ground lighting system with LED technology. These works, along with other associated improvements, will provide safety, environmental, economic and operational benefits for the types and sizes of aircraft that currently operate from the airport.
AAC has prepared, for public consultation, a preliminary draft Major Development Plan (pdMDP) for the runway lengthening aspects of the project. This will allow stakeholders to have input into the runway extension proposal before AAC completes a final draft of the Major Development Plan for approval by the Minister of the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities. The public consultation period starts on 5th December 2018 and concludes on 14th March 2019.
