Unless you’re a banker, a politician or an IT worker, it is unlikely that you will be able to afford to buy your first aircraft brand new. However, purchasing a second-hand plane or helicopter carries slightly more gravity, so to speak, than shelling out for an old banger in the used car classifieds. There is a world of difference between a sensible, safe investment and a perpetually hungry money-pit that spends more time in the workshop than on the centreline. Some world-class aircraft are not so worthy once they’ve gone a few nautical miles round the track whereas some decidedly unexciting designs hold their value and make perfect second hand bargains.
