As many comedians have stated in the past, helicopters are relatively ugly machines, very complex in nature and, on the surface, have absolutely no business to fly. Apart from the advantage of being able to lift off and land vertically, many would suggest there is very little else going for the helicopter. They would, of course, be wrong. Despite all these transparently envious comments, the modern helicopter is an accumulation of innovations and a prime example of engineering genius. Next time you hear a fixed wing fob-off, remember that they simply don’t have the skill nor finances to fly a fancy whirlybird.
