Federal Funding for Townsville Borders

Federal Funding for Townsville Borders

The Federal Government have now confirmed that border protection services for Townsville Airport will be funded in the 2015 budget. The confirmation of budget allocation comes just weeks after Jetstar announced direct services between Townsville and Denpasar Bali will commence in September this year. Border services at the airport should enable Townsville to attract more international carriers and recommence international RPT services.

Kevin Gill, Chief Operating Officer at Townsville Airport, said the announcement was, “crucial in securing our international service with Jetstar…This confirmation is clear acknowledgement from the Federal Government that there is genuine interest from airlines and the Townsville community to see international services recommence. It also signals the Federal Government’s intent to support in making that a reality. Townsville Airport is clearly at the forefront of the Federal Government’s Northern Australia agenda and we see this funding as a logical step forward.”
